This is a Harrison and Gil hand carved wood frame.

I did some preliminary research and found that this company was not founded until 1993. I’m not sure how old this actual frame is.

Overall it measures 15 3/4 inches x 19 1/2 inches (40 cm x 49.5 cm). The back opening size measures 7 3/4 inches x 11 1/2 inches (19.7 cm x 29.2 cm). The molding width measures 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm).

When I saw this frame I was taken by how detailed and beautiful the carving was. I didn’t know how old it was until I did some research. As it turns out, the company was known for hand carved decorative mirrors in the baroque and rococo styles. The frame was made in Indonesia and is probably made of mahogany. It also probably had a mirror in it originally.

It does have a few issues. There is a large chip out of one corner. There is another very small, semi-noticeable chip on one of the short pieces of molding on the exterior. There are a few other tiny scattered dings, but none that stand out.

There are scattered areas with some type of white dots. I tried wiping these off with some water, and they did get lighter. If you are standing just a little ways back you do not notice them, but if you look up very closely, you can definitely see them. I have taken some close-ups of these.

After I started photographing this, I noticed that some sections of the wood are a little lighter or darker than the others. The shorter pieces are a little lighter than the longer pieces. If you really stare at it, you do see the difference, though it took me a while.

The frame is marked in the back with a little metal tag that reads:

Harrison & Gil
CREATIVE HAND CARVING

At the bottom there is a little indented plaque which reads:

8000 PM 0019 ( I don’t know what this means though)

There is no glass.

It weighs 1 lb. 4 oz. (500 g).

Even though it’s newer, it has what I always look for in frames, that wonderful old world look!
