Breaking up a large collection of steins.  Listed here is a Greentown Westmoreland Glass Blue Carnival stein with the Gnome decor.  Excellent condition no chips or cracks. 4.75" tall 4.25" wide including handle.

Although there was never a glass maker named The Greentown Glass Company, the term “Greentown Glass” is most often attributed to items that were   developed and   produced by The Indiana Tumbler and Goblet Company (1894 - 1903).  In 1899, along with 18 other glass companies, Indiana Tumbler joined together into the National Glass Company (Combine).  Thereafter, some product molds were shared among this family of companies resulting in the manufacturing of the same items (usually in different colors) at more than one glass firm (1899 - 1907).   Thus, the “Greentown” name came to be associated with steins that   were   produced   by   the McKee Brothers Glass Company.   Further, until as late as 1910 - 1915, The Westmoreland   Specialty Company, made small glass   steins   very   similar to those   by Indiana Tumbler and McKee   Brothers.

In 1983, The Westmoreland   Glass   Company    ran a very limited production of these steins in Ruby Red Carnival   and Blue Carnival   glass.    This   issue   by Westmoreland occurred just prior to the plant closing down in 1984 and due to the limited production (1,000 pieces in each decor and color), they are now eagerly sought by collectors and becoming very difficult to find.  Any collection of steins or American glass would be enhanced by examples of these rare steins.  Please see my other items for additional steins from this series.
