Simply rub your item on our test stone then apply a drop of the solution onto the platinum streak left on the stone. Results are as follows: If the streak is unaffected, it is platinum. If the streak dissolves or changes color, the material is not platinum. Palladium will turn red.

Do I really need to use safety gear when handling the testing solutions?
Absolutely, all of our testing solutions contain a mix of very strong acid which will dissolve pretty much anything other than the precious metals they are designed to test. Make sure to always wear gloves and glasses when testing and avoid inhalation or exposure to your skin. Always keep solutions away from children and pets.
Will this testing process damage my jewelry?
No. Just remember, never put the acid solution directly onto the object you are testing. The testing stone is designed to remove a small amount of metal from the surface without damaging the piece.
Do the testing solution expire?
The testing solutions may loose potency over time. We recommend replacing your testing solutions every 3 months to ensure precise results.
How does the gold testing solutions work?
Simply put, the gold testing solutions are designed to dissolve and react with any metal that not at least the karat rating listed on the bottle. Begin by rubbing your object onto a testing stone to form a streak of gold. Second, place a drop of highest karat testing solution that you have onto the streak. If the streak starts to dissolve or change colors then the material must either be fake or a lower karat rating than the solution you are using. Try using a lower karat solution until the streak is unaffected to determine the correct karat rating of your piece.
How does the silver testing solutions work?
Begin by rubbing your object onto a testing stone to form a streak of silver. The streak will change colors depending on the purity.
.999 Fine = Bright Red
.925 Sterling = Dark Red
.800 = Brown
.500 = Greenpiece.
How does the platinum testing solutions work?
Begin by rubbing your object onto a testing stone to form a streak of platinum. The streak will be unaffected when you place a drop of the platinum solution onto it if it is real platinum. Any other metal will either be dissolved or will change colors. Palladium will turn red.
How does the diamond tester work?
The diamond tester that we sell works by testing the thermal conductivity of your stone. Diamonds dissipate heat quicker than any other material due to how compact the atoms are together. You will need to know the diamond weight and check the ambient temperature of your testing environment against the included instruction sheet to ensure an accurate reading.
