Here we have a vintage Gibson A3 "White Ivory Top" A- style Mandolin.   Made in Kalamazoo, M,I USA in 1919. This is a "player grade" vintage mandolin.   The A3 with the Ivory tops were produced between 1918-1920.   The Serial number looks to be 52728 which would put it at 1919.    This mandolin has had a headstock repair.  When we received this instrument, there was an older repaired crack. It was somewhat solid but we thought, why not make it as solid as it can be.   We had the repair done over and now it is for sure very stable and will pose no issues.   The headstock overlay was already wavy when we got it.  We did the best we could with what we had to work with.  As you can see, in the photos, the black finish of the back of the headstock has been brought down and blended in. 
  This mandolin is all original.  Tailpiece, bridge, pickguard, and tuners.  The instrument also comes with its original hard shell case.  All latches and hinges are working.  

It has been setup and strung 10's.   The neck is straight and the frets are in great shape.  This mandolin plays beautifully.   As stated, this is a Player Grade instrument.  This is the one you can take to the gig or session.  

Cosmetically, aside from the headstock repair, this mandolin is in very good condition. There are finish marks, scuffs, and light scratches in the finish.  The top has some finish wear but no cracks or breaks on the body. Truly very nice shape for being over a 100 years old.   Please see all photos for detailed condition.  Please feel free to ask any questions.
