George Jones Majolica Blue Tit & Holly Leaves Preserve Jam Jar With Spoon Circa 1873
Rare George Jones majolica preserve / jam jar in brown with green holly leaves. Blue tit bird finial. Matching majolica spoon. The jar is marked on the bottom with the GJ mark for George Jones and an English registry mark. I cannot make out all of the codes for the registry mark, but the year appears to be a F for 1873. I've not been able to find any reference to or photographs of the spoon for this preserve jar; however, other George Jones pieces in similar Blue Tit patterns the leaves on the spoons match the leaves on the body of the pieces. As this spoon has a large holly leaf in the bowl that matches the holly leaves on the body of the preserve jar so I believe this spoon to be the correct original to the jar.
Has one small flake to the glaze on the end of one of the tail feathers, and a small glaze flake to the bottom of the jar. The spoon has a small glaze flake to the tip of the bowl and a small chip on the edge of the bowl. Otherwise good condition. Please ask for additional pictures.
Measures approximately 4 inches wide x 6 3/8 inches tall.
