F14B Tomcat: F14A Tomcat was designed around six AIM54 Phoenix AAMs for air/air intercept in its sole roll as fleet defender. To USN chagrin, Exocet! Most F14As were upgraded to F14B (CDkit) adding ALR-67 RWR, and AWG-9 radar, and changing to GE F110-400 fans.

F14B ‘Bombcat’ teamed with E2C Hawkeye as an ‘air/air-ground-sea’ in fleet defense. F14B/E2C could kill incoming cruise missiles within a 100 mile radius.

F14 retired in 2006 replaced by FA18.
