The most reliable sizing is typically 8-10 watts per square foot for stand alone heating or 4-6 for supplemental. Example: You live in a cold climate and your daughter's 12' x 12' room is not quite warm enough in the winter. 12'x12' = 144 SqFt., 144 x 5 = 720 watts. A 750 Watt unit would be a perfect heater.
