Pre 47 Derbyshire Miners Association union badge from Coppice Colliery, Heanor, Derbyshire (1894-1966).

Coppice Colliery was opened by E Miller Mundy (Shipley Collieries) in 1894 and this badge probably dates to shortly after that date. The records of the Derbyshire Miners Association for 1905 show it paid dues of £713 for that year, which is a likely proxy for the number of members at that time.

Large (38mm) brass, uniface, double piercing for sewing onto cap or clothing.
