18th CENTURY SHELL FORM ROCOCO SILVER OVERSIZE SNUFF BOX
An appealingly robust box; surviving 250 years in remarkably well-preserved condition - complete with period suede lining.
Form, decorative elements, self-stopping hinge construction, wall fabrication, closure fittings and orange filler in repousse cavities and are consistent with northeastern provincial European silver of the late18th century.
NOTE: The cover closes securely with a snap; halves aligning very closely. Opening requires inserting a fingernail in the opening and sliding towards center.
