About Gorham Manufacturing Company:
"Gorham Silver was founded in 1831 by Jabez Gorham and partner Henry L. Webster, in Providence, Rhode Island. Their main products were silver spoons, but they were also known for their thimbles, jewelry and other small items. By mid-century Gorham was one of the Largest Silver Manufacturers in the world. Gorham’s silverware was renowned for its high quality, and the early success was aided by the familiarity with French and English styles of embellishments, due to this the Company had some very notable commissions. Including, a tea service that was purchased by Mary Todd Lincoln for use in the Lincoln White House."
