For sale is a Robbins & Myers Model 14040 cast-iron desk fan, circa 1915, made in Springfield, Ohio. This brass cage and breast blade cast-iron construction motor is a very good runner and does not overheat..
This fan is in excellent original condition, retaining some original pinstriping and speed coil numbers. It features a felt-covered base, typical of later 14040 models, unlike the earlier rubber-footed Model 1404. The black japan finish has age-appropriate wear, enhancing its authenticity. The blades are pristine, with no dings or dents, and are properly aligned and balanced, ready to shine like new with polishing. The cage is intact with no breaks, and in perfect condition as it should be.
The fan runs smoothly on all three speeds, with the slow setting exceptionally quiet—ideal for air-conditioned spaces. View the video to see its operation and condition.
This Model 14040 is a prime restoration candidate, potentially increasing its value significantly, as restored examples have sold well. Its original condition, however, is a rare find, as it’s “original only once.” Keep it as-is or restore with elbow grease and fresh paint for a stunning piece.

This fan is large and heavy and so shipping cost will reflect this especially if you live out west this will be coming from the Cincinnati 45238 area and will probably weigh 35 pounds and be in a 18“ x 18“ x 16“ box. I have shipped lots of fans and I have it down to a science so it will be partially disassembled. You will need to reassemble. This is for shipping purposes as well as protecting the fans parts. You will only need a screwdriver. I am charging $49 for shipping and anything else I will eat. It will be coming federal express if you wish different shipping arrangements please let me know.
