EVANS
ART DECO ENAMEL COMPACT
FROM THE 1920s
This gorgeous compact features a lovely enamel center with raised metal flowers and an architectural looking design. There is a row of hematite gemstones running down the middle, 19 in all - a strange number so I wonder if that was significant of something. All the stones are intact. The outside of that circle looks almost like a leopard or cheetah print and has an airbrushed appearance. Some of that paint has rubbed off, especially on the back. There is no powder inside but the “puff” is still there and the mirror is okay but has some marks on it. It’s just a thin reflective surface, rather than glass with mirror paint. As you can see, the rouge hasn’t been used but some has chipped away on one edge. The enamel does have scuffing and some scratches which you can see if you look closely. It latches perfectly. This measures 2 1/4” square. I can’t find another like it anywhere. The patent number was registered in 1925.
