This is an outstanding example of an 1860 hearth brush. It is from a plantation house in North Carolina. The retainers are hand crafted and woven leather. The handle(shaft) is ebony. The handle end is stag horn. The leather hanging loop is new. In museum quality condition considering it is 164 years old. Overall length 38”. Bottom of bristles 5 1/2”.
