Item for auction is a 7.37g partial slice of the Ajdabiya 001 Lunar melt breccia meteorite that was found in 2021 in Libya and purchased by Adam Aaronson and Ahmed Salek in April 2021 from a dealer in Ajdabiya, Libya. The specimens (total weight 28.8 kg) are distinctive in having relatively closely packed and unusually large, angular, light-gray lithic clasts (up to 2 cm) within a sparse dark, fine-grained matrix. The meteorite is comprised of a breccia composed of angular lithic clasts and related crystalline debris within a sparse fine-grained and in part microvesicular matrix. Portions of the glassy matrix exhibit streaky flow-banding. Clast lithologies include spinel troctolite and quench-textured basaltic rocks. Minerals include anorthite, olivine, low-Ca pyroxene, exsolved pigeonite, augite, ilmenite, chromite (with variable Ti content), Fe-Cr-bearing spinel:, kamacite and troilite. Specimen comes in a quality labeled display box along with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity / Identification Card. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale. Big Kahuna combines shipping, and addresses must be in the English language, to facilitate customs input at US Postal Service. Non-English addresses cannot be shipped, and may incur additional fees for handling. We no longer ship to China or Italy.
