AE20401 5.8 GHz Frequency Counter / 8 GHz Power Meter / Pulse Counter with USB

 DESCRIPTION:

The AE20401 is a versatile instrument that combines three different functions:

• A Frequency Counter - from mHz to 5.8 GHz
• Power Meter - 500 MHz / 85 dB or 8 GHz / 50 dB
• Pulse Counter - adjustable number of pulses per count, external gate input

The USB Interface allows to readout the measured values of all modes and control all functions. The included software (see below) also enables advanced features like charting, logging, pass/fail, statistics etc.

CHANNEL A (2 Hz - 80 MHz):

Low frequency input of the Frequency Counter. Resolution up to 0.001 Hz due to reciprocal counting algorithms

Adjustable Sensitivity/Attenuation to suppress noise and distortion
Adjustable Trigger slope
Offset Function: multiplies the value with a factor and adds/subtracts another value
Smooth Function: displays a moving average for easier reading of unstable values

Adjustable number of pulses per revolution for RPM Mode

Channel C (Pulse Counter):

Dedicated Pulse Counter can be used in many ways, e.g. as an event counter

Adjustable number of pulses per count
Control via keys (local), external Gate Input (on the back) or USB

A comprehensive printed 64 pages Assembly and Operation Manual is included (in english, german and english manuals in PDF format also available on the enclosed CD). The manual covers all the techniques needed including soldering.

All SMD parts are pre-assembled, only through-hole components have to be soldered!

The kit contains all necessary parts, the programmed and tested microcontroller, the high quality, E-Tested PCB with gold finish and a 2x16 LCD with backlight. No additional parts or components are required! Yellow-green or blue backlight is selectable at no additional cost. A machined enclosure is also available (see below).

This kit is also suitable for beginners in electronics.

The module AE204017 adds the Channel B to the Frequency Counter, ranging from 70 MHz to 5.8 GHz - this extends the scope of application to the microwave band.

Power Meter:

The modules AE204015 and AE204014 add a full-featured Power Meter to the Frequency Counter turning it into an essential tool especially for radio amateurs and everyone who needs to measure power of RF signals.

External attenuators can be automatically included in the displayed value.

AE204015:

Frequency Range: DC - 500 MHz
Input Range: -55 dBm - +30 dBm (3 Nanowatt - 1 Watt)

AE204014:

Frequency Range: 10 MHz - 8 GHz
Input Range: -55 dBm to -5 dBm

1ppm TCXO Time Base:

Replaces the standard time base with the TCXO module AE204011 with 1ppm frequency tolerance - this greatly improves the accuracy of the measurements.

The module is also available separately in the shop.

USB Interface:

The USB option is available for only $7. It provides an USB 1.1/2.0 interface that allows reading out the values and full software control of all functions. The software is included. It also allows firmware updates, which will add new features in the future.

Display:

Two displays with backlight are available for no extra charge: yellow-green (-YG) and blue (-BL).

Case Enclosure:

A machined enclosure with all needed cut-outs and labeling is available for $16.
