For sale, 9 Stanley 720 chisels, and 1 720-style chisel.

8 of the Stanley chisels are marked "Stanley No. 720 Made in USA"; the 7/8 one is marked "Stanley Made in USA." Please look carefully at the photos for condition.

The Samson 1/8 chisel is marked on the side of the chisel, not on the socket. I've provided a vintage Stanley 720 handle for it.

I collected this set over several years; then found a set of mostly NOS chisels offered and bought those, so don't need two sets. The handles on a socket chisel are meant to be removable. You are welcome to sand the cones down a bit, to make them fit deeper in the sockets; or add a bit of blue tape to wedge them in tighter. Lie Nielsen recommends using hairspray to keep their socket chisel handles in tight, which has the advantage of being reversible. Other people use glue or epoxy, which is more permanent.

The 1/4" chisel has a decal on its handle. That is the one handle I couldn't easily remove (by rapping the wood on a workbench) which is why the handle is facing the "back" of the chisel. I don't know if it was glued by a prior owner or just needs a little more encouragement to separate. I'll leave that up to the buyer. I had planned to polish them up, and maybe stain the handles uniformly. Some prefer the patina so again I will leave that to you.

All have a good length. Included:

A 2" chisel. The blade has some age spots but it looks to be almost unused. I think a prior owner may have removed the handle finish, though the red stain has penetrated enough to leave the handle a dark brown,

A 1.5" chisel. The blade has some marks from sanding or a wire wheel, but not deep. There is some light pitting halfway up the front of the blade, but nothing to scare the cat. The handle was stripped; the leather washers still retain some of the red stain.

A 1" chisel. In good shape, with some age spots on the blade, and dings on the handle.

A 7/8 chisel marked Stanley Made In USA on the socket. 720s were marked with the number, and without, like here; the earliest ones with a notched rectangle and "Stanley" on the blade, and again no number. Many collectors prefer the number to be present, because of certainty; and yet, the 7/8 is the third hardest size to find, and I was pleased to find this one of a good length. The finish is flaking off this handle.

A 3/4 chisel, in very good shape, with some minor age spotting. Marked "847" on the back by its original owner.

A 5/8 chisel, as above, in great shape, and marked "847" on the back by its original owner.

A 1/2 chisel. The steel is age darkened but not pitted, so would polish well.

A 3/8 chisel. Another in great shape with the "847" mark on the back.

A 1/4 chisel, decal on the handle. Some minor age color, no pitting. Vintage handle in good shape with some flaking.

A 1/8 Samson chisel. The 1/8 Stanley 720 chisel is the second hardest to find, and this will makes for a good substitute until you find (and can afford) one. The hardest to find is 1-3/4". You won't have trouble finding a 1-1/4 chisel here on eBay. A full set will number 12 chisels, if you're mostly collecting. If you're mostly using, you don't really need a 1-1/4, or 1-3/4! I do though use a 1/8 chisel from time to time.

Please pay within 5 days. I don't accept refunds, unless I've misrepresented an item, which I don't believe I have.
