NOTE: Barley Straw Bales are not an algaecide and will not kill algae. They are a great at helping keep water clear and work hand in hand with pond beneficial bacteria. This product works best as a preventative measure. Water clarity may improve in ponds experiencing clarity issues but used in conjunction with pond bacteria is the best combination of natural pond treatments for achieving clean and clear water.   

Barley Straw Bales are Ideal for Improving Water Quality! Naturally occurring organisms will decompose the lignins in the barley releasing humic substances into the water. With exposure to sunlight and oxygen the compounds are converted into low levels of hydrogen peroxide, modifying your pond’s chemistry and improving water quality.

Barley Straw Bale Pond Water Treatment Information per Bale:

  • EACH 1 lb bale treats approximately 1000 gallons of pond water
  • A one pound bale lasts three to four months, apply second bale four weeks after first treatment to avoid interruption in water quality
  • Includes mesh bag for easy application
  • Best results if applied early season
  • Initial Dose: 1 bale per 1000 gallons of pond water
  • Maintenance Dose: Replace approximately every 3 months
