3M VHB 4926 DESCRIPTION

3M 4926 is a double-sided, gray, acrylic foam tape that is 0.015” thick (0.4 mm). It has a Very High Bond (VHB) that can bond even at very low temperatures. Its acrylic adhesive composition makes it well suited for a variety of substrates. 3M VHB 4926 is highly conformable, so it provides a more uniform seal on irregular surfaces. The fast and easy to use permanent bonding method provides high strength and long-term durability. It offers design flexibility with its viscoelasticity and powerful ability to bond to a variety of high, medium and low surface energy substrates.

** During Resistance Tests, 3M VHB 4926 was taped between stainless steel and aluminum foil and then Immersed in solvents for 72 hours. Continuous submersion in chemical solutions is not recommended. It is presented to show that occasional chemical contact should not be detrimental to tape performance in most applications during ordinary use.

 


 

3M VHB 4926 THERMAL EXPANSION & CONTRACTION

3M VHB Tapes can perform well in applications where two bonded surfaces may expand and contract differentially. Assuming good adhesion to the substrates, the tapes can typically tolerate differential movement in the shear plane up to 3 times their thickness.



3M VHB 4926 BOND FLEXIBILITY

While an advantage for many applications where allowing differential movement is a benefit, the tape bonds are typically more flexible than alternative bonding methods. Suitable design modifications or periodic use of rigid fasteners or adhesives may be needed if additional stiffness is required.

 


3M VHB 4926 PERFORMANCE IN SEVERE COLD
