This is a 3D-printed, six-hole Native American-style drone flute in the key of Low C, tuned to 440 Hz in an extended pentatonic minor scale. It features a dual-barrel design: the left barrel plays the drone (the lowest note, C4 =~ 262 Hz), while the right barrel plays the melody. Designed to emulate the style of traditional wooden Native American drone flutes, it produces a similarly soothing and warm sound but at a more affordable price. The flute is printed in four pieces, with the top and bottom two pieces glued together, resulting in two main segments. Due to its large size, this flute is best suited for players with medium to large hands.
The flute is crafted from PLA (PolyLactic Acid), a thermoplastic derived from renewable resources such as corn starch, tapioca roots, or sugarcane. Unlike petroleum-based industrial materials, PLA is biodegradable and food-safe, making it environmentally friendly and non-toxic. For reference, PLA is the same material used to produce coffee cup lids.
After 3D printing, each part is carefully cleaned, sanded (if necessary), and the finger holes are filed to remove excess filament. As with most 3D-printed items, minor imperfections and visible layer lines may be present, but these do not affect the sound quality. The final product will match the quality shown in the photos.
