1953 Duraglas 1-Gallon Jar with Colorful Graphic Wyandotte Antibac Powder Farm Vet Apothecary Medical

Here is a vintage collectible in excellent condition that will make a great addition to your apothecary and old medicine bottle collection.

Offered is a gallon glass jar with a strikingly colorful graphic design. It is from Wyandotte Chemicals Corp. which was founded in 1890 as Michigan Alkali and was acquired in 1969 by German company BASF. Wyandotte's logo, a Native-American archer, appears to the left of the Wyandotte name on both the jar and its black lid. The slogan "CLEANING THE WORLD" appears in the lower left corner of the vivid green and red label.

This used jar originally contained Wyandotte Antibac powder which, when mixed with water, was a sanitizer/disinfectant commonly used on farms and in dairies in the 1950s. That was when my parents acquired this jar.

Embossed on the bottom of the jar by its manufacturer are the following:
  • Dots (called basal stippling or knurling)
  • 7 - the Owens-Illinois plant number in Alton, Illinois
  • Diamond with O and I within--the Owens-Illinois logo
  • 53 - the year manufactured, in this case 1953
  • 8 - the mold number
  • Duraglas (written in script between 1940 and 1963) - a glass formula and process developed and trademarked by Owens-Illinois Glass

Approximate measurements:
  • Height:  9.75"
  • Diameter at mouth:  4.5"
  • Diameter at base:  5"
  • Weight: 2 lbs. 13 oz. (before packaging for safe shipment)
  • Lid outside diameter 4-15/16"

The jar is Used.  It has no chips, cracks or repairs. The only blemish found is the small whitish spot on an edge of the lid. The photos are part of my description.  Please zoom in on them and judge for yourself whether the item will meet your needs.
