World War II loomed as the 1939-1940 "World of Tomorrow" New York World's Fair opened. Centerpieces of the fair were the Trylon, a 728 foot tapering column, and the Perisphere, a huge globe. The fair, held in Flushing Meadow Park in Queens, boasted more than two million flowers and 10,000 trees on the site of an original dump. Among the "World of Tomorrow" previews were air conditioning, television, nylon and General Motor's "Futurama", a prediction of auto freeway systems which reportedly drew 28,000 visitors daily. Almost 45 million visitors attended the 1 1/2 year fair, which also commemorated the 150th anniversary of George Washington's presidency.

Measures almost 5.0 inches tall and about 3.75 inches wide. Three-inch ruler added to some pictures to show size/scale.
