This official police registration form, issued on June 16, 1938 in Uzhhorod (Ungvár), records the presence of a Jewish resident, D Grünbaum, born in 1892, son of Salamon Grünbaum and Regina Kleinová.
At the time of registration, Uzhhorod was part of Czechoslovakia’s Carpathian Ruthenia – a borderland steeped in Jewish life, scholarship, and tradition. Within months, the region would fall under Hungarian rule, and just a few years later, be swept into the tragedy of the Holocaust.
