1891 Meadville PA Check – John Porter to Ziegler, Hall & Lefflith – Merchants National Bank
3 pages with writing Approximately 12.5" by 8"
Original 1858 legal document from the Court of Common Pleas, Lake County, Ohio. This amended petition filed by Ezra Tuttle against Alvan Nash concerns a $487 promissory note originally signed by Araph Hurlbert on February 17, 1857, and later endorsed by Nash. When Hurlbert defaulted, a judgment was pursued, but he was found insolvent. The sheriff’s return in March 1858 notes no assets to levy. The plaintiff seeks to recover the debt from Nash. Includes sworn statements, notary seal, and a full copy of the original note. Excellent example of 19th-century Ohio debt litigation and court procedure.
Filed August 31, 1858, with later annotations and red wax seal.
