12x GENUINE VINTAGE NASA 1967 SURVEYOR 6 B&W PHOTOS & NASA PROVENANCE LETTER
Selling part of a collection of original, genuine NASA/JPL material that I inherited from a Professor of Astronomy friend, who worked with NASA on its unmanned & manned missions to the Moon during the 1960’s-70’s.
This sale includes –
11x Black & White photos (10x8 inch) taken by Surveyor 6’s onboard cameras. With full descriptions on rear in purple ink, including the NASA logo. There are also black flecks on the border of the emulsion side (within the emulsion) which were put on during the printing process. This was the norm for genuine NASA photos of this era, to ensure that they are genuine NASA prints and not copies.
1x Black & White photo (10x8 inch) mosaic wide angle view around Surveyor 6’s landing site. “No descriptive text on the rear” but there is a black fleck on the border of the emulsion side (within the emulsion) which were put on during the printing process. This was the norm for genuine NASA photos of this era, to ensure that they are genuine NASA prints and not copies.
The photos are accompanied by a typed NASA letter dated 16th October 1967 & signed by John E.Naugle (Associate Administrator for Space Science & Applications).
All photos are in very good condition (see pics).
Surveyor 6 was launched from Launch Complex 36B at Cape Canaveral in Florida on 7th November 1967. Its mission was to make a soft landing on the lunar surface and study the surface material scattering during touchdown, which it successfully achieved on 10th November 1967.
Before termination of operations, on Nov. 17, 1967, Surveyor 6 was commanded to fire its three main liquid propellant thrusters for 2.5 seconds. As a result, the lander became the first spacecraft to be launched from the lunar surface. Surveyor 6 lifted to about 10 feet (3 meters) before landing about 8 feet (2.5 meters) west of its original landing point. This test paved the way for future Apollo landings.
These photos were issued by NASA as a press release for the media and to those who were involved with the mission, as in the case of my friend.
Your chance to own a piece of 1960’s NASA space history.
