1 Qt. Matte Triple Thick Polyurethane (2-Pack)

been looking for something to take the place of the Rustoleum 3x thick for a while since my local store does not carry it anymore

Found myself refinishing some oak cabinets in an old house I bought. Had intended to do a color coat using General Finishes Java gel stain in a standard way (brush on, wipe off). Discovered that flaws and discoloration of the old wood was going make this plan unsuitable unless I completely stripped the cabinets and did considerable work. Changed the plan to using the stain as you would paint (brush on, let it dry, repeat as needed). This gave better results but I found that each coat of brushed on stain further reduced the oak grain texture that I wanted to retain. I also found that the cold winter weather was making the stain dry very slowly (3+ days instead of 24 hrs.) making the job take forever. Finally got the formula all worked out and settled on 2 coats of stain as being adequate and was ready to move on to a poly coat. The grain was still mostly visible but not as strong as I'd hoped. This is where things started to really go south.

I used the Varathane Triple Thick to finish an antique table. It worked beautifully! The product is super thick, which I think made application so much easier. It is self leveling and since it's water based so easy to clean up. I highly recommend this product and will use it exclusively from now on. One note: It happened to be super humid the day I was using the polyurethane, so it did take a little bit longer to dry to tough. But I expected this to be the case.

This is a good water based polyurethane that is easy to apply and clean up afterwards. The product is a thick milky fluid that turns clear when it dries. The milky color helps because I can see where it has been applied. It is very thick but the claim that one coat is enough is not accurate as I had to apply 3 coats on my raw wood shelf to get the smooth finish I desired. Because it is water-based, it does not have a strong smell and is not volatile which makes it ideal for babies' or children's furniture. It also dries pretty quick. I will stick to the oil based polys for my floors or items that need to endure a lot of use and wear, but this is good for furniture or shelves and the clean up with soap and water instead of mineral spirits is very nice.

As all the products I have tried from Varathane have worked great so did this triple thick polyurethane. When you first open the can it looks milky but it does dry clear. I did notice a little amber coloring but it was very slight, but it does state that it can occur on light colored wood. I applied it with a synthetic brush and applied it in the grain direction. Clean up of the brush was easy just soap and water as it is a water based formula.

The title says it all. After doing the proper prep work, you'll find this is not only easy to work with but clean up is a snap with soap and water... I used it for an old oak table top. The milky white appearance of the product will dry to a clear finish. The easy part is I applied one generous coat that as it says will self-level.. After letting it cure for a day, I now have an old table top that looks years younger.

When I installed the 1" x 12" Pine board flooring 20 years ago, in our log home, I covered the floors with two coats of water based polyurethane. Over the years the polyurethane has worn off, in the heaviest traveled areas. I liked the distressed look of the bare floor, worn off polyurethane, but knew I should protect it, again. I used this Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane to cover the bare wood, exposed by years of wear. I vacuumed & washed the bare areas, allowing them to dry over night. Before painting, I vacuumed the areas again. I stirred the polyurethane, before use. The polyurethane has a thick consistency. It was easy to see where It was applied, so I could continue the wet edge. It seemed that it was immediately absorbed into the raw Pine wood. In one hour the raw wood areas were dry to the touch. The wood that still had some old polyurethane on it, that I painted over, was still tacky to the touch. The room temperature was 70 degrees & 59 percent humidity. I'll leave it dry overnight, before I start to use the areas. After the polyurethane had dried, the appearance is very acceptable, where the polyurethaned bare wood areas meet the areas where the old finish still exists. It's appearance, blends very well. It's a big relief & work saver, knowing I only have to put on one coat & not three.

Received the 1 qt. Matte Triple Thick Polyurethane last week and got a chance to use yesterday on a small bench that sits outside by the front door, I know this product is for interior use but the bench does sit under cover. The can does state that it is a self leveling polyurethane so I laid it down in a manner that I would normally not do and it did self level and it really does look great. It really surprised me how quick it dried that did save me some time. No need for a second coat either. I would recommend this product.

Use this on our entry way floor. it has a nice matte look to it and slightly added a little color which turned out to look pretty good. application I used a paint brush as instructed and put on a nice thick coat equal to 3 coats of other products. we used the back door as it needed to cure for 12 hours. We liked the self leveling of the coating as it was a nice and level professional look to it, we are really pleased with the results. Clean up was a snap with just soap and water.

This seems to be a nice product for indoors. It is very thick , levels nicely, low voc. When you open the product it's is Mikly white this clears as it dries. Good for building up a finish dries fast and levels nicely. I mainly use oil base products and was happy with this product for it Low VOC along with being much clearer than oil base .
